PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The Pittsburgh chapter is hosting its annual social and networking event for this month. If you have not been to Rock Bottom at the Waterfront, I urge you to attend. It is a full brewery and restaurant with an adjoining piano bar, Sing Sing. This evening will be a great opportunity to meet other accountants and finance professionals from throughout the Pittsburgh area. We have invited other local financial organizations to also join us at this event.

Rock Bottom brewery produces a variety of its own craft beers with other quality brews available at the bar. There will be several delicious hot appetizers served and a tour of their brewing operation will be conducted. Invite your co-workers, friends and professional contacts to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our Pittsburgh chapter has also begun planning for its fourth annual professional and educational conference, known as the PTAC 2009. It will be held in September and further details will be announced in future months. The conference provides 8 CPE within four different educational sessions offered each hour – 29 speakers in total. Last year’s event was very successful with several positive comments received from over 70 participants. Overall, it truly was an informative and interesting conference at a bargain price compared to most CPE professional conferences offered elsewhere. If you have suggestions for topics, or would like to assist us with planning, we welcome your input! Please contact Kathy Feinstein, Chair of the committee, at 412-919-0439, or email her at kmfofpa@msn.com.

Finally, the Pittsburgh Chapter is looking into partnering with the University of Pittsburgh in offering an instructor led CMA exam preparation course. While planning is in the very early stages, we are considering a possible weekly class offered over a period of 3 months covering the material on all 4 parts of the CMA exam. We would like to know how popular this prep class offering might be. If you would be interested in attending a class such as this, please let me know.
